SMACK!

SMACK! is a new and exciting literary magazine published by the Publications and Technical Writing class at The Academy of Science & Entrepreneurship in Bloomington, IN.  We “smack” belief into the unknown and the unheard, empowering creativity through the recognition of unique voices.  

Guidelines:

Submission to SMACK! is open to all high school students within Monroe County Community Schools. All submissions must be original pieces of work.  Fiction and creative non-fiction writers will have a maximum page limit of 20 pages, while poets can submit up to three poems. Visual artists can submit up to three related pieces of artwork for consideration.  All fiction must be double spaced and, along with poetry and artwork, must be submitted electronically.  Fiction, non-fiction and poetry needs to be formatted in .doc or .docx, and artwork needs to be in jpeg, .gif, or pdf formats.  Please limit submissions to three per person, per genre. Any submissions not adhering to these guidelines will not be considered.

When submitting your work via our magazine site, you will need to register with our submission manager submittable.com. Please include a title of your submission and a brief cover page about the work.  Also, you must include a valid email and tell us where you attend high school.  All work must be submitted by March 1, 2015 for publication by May 10, 2015.

 All work will be judged equally and anonymously based on SMACK!’s guidelines. Each piece will be read thoroughly by our editors with care and consideration. We are looking for interesting and unique work to include in our magazine, work that showcases emerging voices and talent. We are not looking just for our own personal taste but work for readers of all ages to enjoy. 

If your work is accepted for publication, you will be notified immediately.  SMACK! will be available electronically through The Academy of Science and Entrepreneurship. Good luck, happy creating, and may the SMACK! be with you.
